Cat. #00164222221: RALPH LEWIS

Extremely uncommon vintage inscribed pencil signature on a 4x6-inch tan album page, acquired in-person in the late 1920s.  In good condition, with some gentle toning in spots.  Note that the image of the star shown alongside the scan of the autograph here is not actually included with the item.  Ralph Lewis-- like his wife, Vera Lewis-- was one of the great character actors of the silent and early talkie screens, memorable in over 160 films until he was accidentally mowed down by one of Jack Warner's limo drivers at the age of 65.  Highlights include D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation (1915) and Intolerance (1916); Gretchen the Greenhorn (1916); Going Straight (1916); A Tale of Two Cities (1917); The Valley of the Giants (1919); Eyes of Youth (1919); The Hoodlum (1919); Tod Browning's Outside the Law (1920) with Lon Chaney; Salvage (1921); The Conquering Power (1921); Dante's Inferno (1924); Untamed Youth (1924); Casey Jones (1927); Abraham Lincoln (1930); American Madness (1932); The Lost Squadron (1932); The Death Kiss (1932) with Bela Lugosi; sci-fi's Mystery Liner (1934) and The Lost City (1935) serial; The Accusing Finger (1936); Make Way for Tomorrow (1937); and The Buccaneer (1938).
